Next week Americans across the globe will join together to celebrate Thanksgiving. This tradition, many many generations old, was started out of an attitude of thanks for the harvest (amongst other details…)
Today, although distinctly a North American holiday (yes, Canadians celebrate it too, just a wee bit earlier), people from all over the world join with their American family and friends for a time of turkey, cranberry sauce, football and pie.
In just over a weeks’ time I too will be cooking dinner & joining friends from all over the world in giving thanks and enjoying a time of good food and holiday movies. One tradition that I hold dearly is taking time to go around the table & share what you are thankful for this year. I started thinking about all that I am thankful for, all that I am blessed to have been bestowed over the last 12 months.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 (NIV) states: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus…
Although this year has had its share of drama, pain, & hurt, it has also brought with it stronger friendships, love & an understanding of the blessings & peace that come with a complete focus & trust in God. Taking a few moments and reflecting on 2010 has brought such a sense of comfort and excitement for what lies ahead in 2011.
I still don’t know what I am going to say next Saturday when my turn around the table comes. However, I do know I will not struggle with choice.
What are you thankful for?
